Palm Harbor Homes -- Experiences? Opinions?

I'd like to hear from anyone here who's bought a modular house from Palm Harbor modular homes.

How was your experience with Palm Harbor? Do you like your house?

The one I'm thinking of buying looks like the one behind this cut...Collapse )

Firewood?

I'm looking for recommendations for firewood. I'm hoping to get one or two cords - I have plenty of exterior wall space and want to economize.

I know of one outfit - Austin Firewood - they want $275/cord and don't seem to have a discount for a second cord. I can't tell, since their telephone number goes straight to a full mailbox and they don't reply to messages left through their webpage (though I expect they're probably crazy-busy right now).

I don't need immediate delivery, I care more about price and quality of the product and service.

Thanks!

Security...

So, I consider myself to be a tech/customer service professional, who has recently went to work for a local locksmith here in Austin. Over the last 3 months I have learned more about the security (or lack thereof) that todays standard deadbolts/doorknobs provide than I thought I ever would. View this video on bump keys if you need proof.

Really, I had always known that standard locks should really only be your first line of defense, but what do you guys think? Do you think it is worth about $90 per cylinder to have the "unpickable" locks that are on the market, or just go with the mainstream and get a security system?

New Community

I've recently moved to Austin and for the first time, own my very own house.

I was kind of amazed at the number of issues I that I now suddenly have to worry about. How do I find a reliable, trustworthy contractor? What's the best place around to find clumping bamboo? What experiences do people have challenging their property taxes? Are there many trick-or-treaters around here these days?

I'm not actually asking those questions, but you get the point. It would seem like there's a lot to talk about, especially with the number of people moving to Austin.

I'm setting this to be wide-open for membership and posting now (only anonymous posts screened), and will only change that if people start generating more heat than light.
